I know this probably isn’t going to be an INTJ specific thing but I’m curious about how y’all picked and if it was a hard choice.
For those curious, I chose game design and this is how I picked:
Ever since I was young I’ve had a passion for the sciences, art, video games, and math. During my teenage years I developed a passion for basketball, sports science, psychology, and the other sciences that I was interested in started to become more clear. These sciences included astrophysics, environmental sciences, geoscience, biology and neuroscience.
Trying to pick a career was extremely stressful for me. Every time I would decide on one path it would look over to another path and think something along the lines of “astrophysics is pretty cool, am I sure I don’t want to do something with that?”
After months of sleepless nights I ended up choosing to study game design and software engineering. Part of the reason this was so hard for me was because it also determined where I decided to go to college.
I felt that this career path would give me the best chance to pursue most of my interests because when you design games you can do much more than just make the mechanics. For example, if you were to make a game about space and colonizing planets, that includes such a wide variety of subjects that you can include for accuracy and realism or not include.
Essentially I chose game design as the career I wanted to follow because It is can be an all encompassing career. Also, I never want to work in a cubicle or work for other people. With this career I can go indie and start my own studio if I wish to.
I’m still in school but I’ve already begun working on a game and I really feel like this was the best choice for me. I do have some doubts though because I want to have a positive impact on the world and I think that will be hard to do with video games. I will probably go back to school at some point and study something else, but for now I am happy.
So how did you choose your career and how is it going?
