I haven’t applied to a job in years.
Yes, YEARS. 🫣
Not because I’m above it. Not because I’m some once-in-a-generation talent but because I let my recruiters and CEOs come to me.
I’m just THAT GOOD at marketing myself on LinkedIn and tricking people into thinking I’m really good at what I do! Big brain, I know!
For the last four years, I’ve done the same three things almost every single day to ensure that I’m always in demand in any job market.
Let’s get into it.
3 Things I do DAILY on LinkedIn
1. I Post Like a Thought Leader (Even When I Don’t Feel Like One)
Every day, I post something relevant to my niche. Observations. Trends. Lessons from projects. This gives me credibility and authority that makes me visible in my field. It’s built up my credibility and gotten my opportunities even beyond new jobs— like doing keynotes, filming LinkedIn Learning courses, and even partnering with F1 & the NFL! Here’s a few examples of thought leader post ideas:
-
“Here are three trends I’m seeing in tech and data right now.”
-
“The skill that will replace half of junior analysts”
2. I Actually Engage (Not Just Post and Ghost)
I treat LinkedIn like a room full of smart people that I want to know. I comment thoughtfully, reply to DMS, and actually start conversations. This makes my name more familiar, and it’s no longer just a random name amongst the crowd. These relationships are necessary for growing your brand, and you never know who could be an asset to you later. But the key is to offer THEM value first.
3. My Profile Is a Landing Page, Not a Resume
If someone clicks your profile after reading your post, what do they see? It should show them why they should hire you. They shouldn’t feel confused; it should make them say, “Oh, this person is LEGIT.” Your LinkedIn profile is just as important as a resume nowadays, and you can either make a good impression or a bad one. Here are my top tips:
-
Have a clear headline (not just your job title)
-
Show them all the great things you’re doing
And once you know the LinkedIn pattern, YOU can work it.
Recruiters notice the visible.
Not the most qualified. If you’re only applying through job portals and waiting, you’ve already lost. Post. Comment. Get your name in front of people BEFORE you need them.
They remember the consistent.
Pick ONE specific thing you do better than anyone and say it everywhere. One clear message beats a five-page resume every time.
They hire communication.
The candidate who followed up twice, stayed in their inbox, and kept showing up? That’s who gets the offer. Not the most talented person. The most persistent one.
Make them come to YOU.
If you’re not actively shaping your self on LinkedIn, the platform will shape it for you. Take control.
Bye BDEs 💅🏼
