FOR THE LATEST INSTALLMENT OF OUR “ELECTRONIC LIGHTS – WOMEN IN ELECTRONIC MUSIC” SERIES, WE MET UP WITH CHLOE CAILLET.
Which music was the first to touch/inspire/move you? What made it so special and standing to you?
From a very young age my father showed me so much music – we had a love for classic rock. We would always sit on the rooftop of our apartment building in NYC and play „School“ by Supertramp and he would take me in his arms and we would dance to it over and over again.
Have there been people whose contribution to the development of your musical identity was of special importance?
It all started when I was 15 and living in Paris. The Fluo Kids scene was emerging and artists such as Justice, Brodinsky, Sebastian, DJ Mehdi and the whole Ed Banger scene was booming. I started going out to The Social Clubs, which was the Mecca of this sound, and fell in love with it. I then moved to Bristol and started going to nightclubs like Motion and Lakota and got involved into the local Dubstep and Drum and Bass scene. My friends back in Paris started to get immersed into the minimal Romanian and French house scene, so when I would go back I would attend these underground raves outside of Paris, from there my love for house music started to grow.
What do you prefer, the seclusive working process in a studio or the live presentation of your music in front of the audience? And why so?
Both. Its amazing to work in the studio creating music and seeing the reaction from the crowd is also as wonderfull and rewarding.
What is your ideal space/place to listen to music?
I love listening to music on my headphones while walking. I find it really cathartic.
Please name female artists without whose music you wouldn’t be producing music? Why those?
Janice Joplin, she is one of the most iconic artists from our generation. Her rawness and ability to express through her lyrics and performances have been one of my main inspirations.
What would be a fantasy venue or event to dj or play live at?
I wanna play in a dome in space, how cool would that be? 😉
What is your favorite app/technology/instrument to create sounds with?
I always sample my voice in all my tracks. I love playing with sounds and I feel like it brings my personal mark to my music.
